Welcome to Culture Kitsch

So, what is Culture Kitsch?

Well, firstly, it's a place for me to talk TV and movies, with occasional forays into the worlds of music and literature. I'm unemployed and have ample time to venture into the vast wasteland of media--particularly television--and with nothing else to do with my fancy college degree, I'm putting my skills to work sharing my opinions and impressions with the internet at large (or whoever happens to stumble upon this patch of pixels).

Why "Culture Kitsch?" Because while I was agonizing over pondering blog names, I thought about my ninth grade English teacher, Mr. Hoeger, who would start each class with an activity he called "Highbrow and Kitschy Culture," wherein he would talk about music, books, movies, photography, or whatever, really. Sometimes we talked about the Baroque. Sometimes we listed to "Big Rock Candy Mountain" (which is still in my iTunes library today, thanks to O Brother, Where Art Thou?):

Big Rock Candy Mountain - Harry McClintock

The phrase--"highbrow & kitschy culture," that is--stuck with me, so here we are.

Culture Kitsch is a place where I'll talk about the mediocre television I'm watching and the books that inspired it. I'll riff on the Twilight debacle of the week, and try to keep up with pop culture.

I've already posted a few of entries below. Try them on for size, see how they feel. If you like what you read, come along for the ride!
